Okay, maybe not breakfast, but PRE-breakfast pick me up....

Coffee itself it actually quite beneficial. However it's what we often add to it that makes us think of it as 'unhealthy'. The coffee bean itself has natural occurring anti-oxidants, . Surprisingly a typical serving of coffee offers more of health promoting benefits than an average serving of berries! Amazing I know, but more importantly anti-oxidant properties help with the reduction of inflammation that can lead to so many diseases or afflictions. I never use to drink coffee. It wasn't until after I had my son, Grant (G) at 42, that I woke up "needing" caffeine. Not sure what happened inside me to change that, but when I say need I mean need. Otherwise I can barely get a sentence out or so it feels. Are you like me and need coffee to get your day going or do you need the proverbial 3pm afternoon pick me-up? Either way here are a few coffee benefits you may not know of as well as a recipe for homemade creamer.

Healthy Homemade Creamer

  • 2 cups non-dairy milk (coconut, hemp, pea, almond, cashew, your choice!)

  • 2 pitted dates - a rich source of fiber that helps regulate blood sugar and blood cholesterol

  • PURE Vanilla extract to your liking ( just a splash) maybe 1/2 to 1 tsp on average.

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon - a superfood known to help lower blood sugar

  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric (optional) - another superfood known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Combine all in a blender or food processor until well combined and smooth. Taste and adjust flavorings to your liking. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Be sure to shake or mix well prior to each use. I hope you enjoy.
